1. What is prepaid Student card?

Karnataka Bank Student prepaid card is stored value card that can be purchased in INR amounts ranging from Rs.1000/- to Rs.45000/-. They can be used worldwide anywhere Visa debit cards are accepted. The card is reloadable up to an aggregate card balance of Rs.45000/- i.e. on a given day the card balance cannot exceed Rs.45,000/.

2. Who can purchase a Student card?

Student card is a unique card that can be issued to an accountholder across the counter on receipt of the prescribed 'Application form' and specified amount and charges, if any. Cards are issued at a nominal fee of Rs.100/- and are re-loaded at DD commission rate. Please remember to sign on the back of your card immediately on receipt of the card.

3. What is the validity of a Student card?

Karnataka Bank Student card's validity is printed on the card. Please check the "valid thru date".

4. How to get the PIN for the Student card?

The Cardholder should log into "My Account" web page and key-in the necessary information like C V V number (C V V number- last three digits printed on the reverse side of the card) and date of birth (DDMM format) then the PIN number will be given to him/her.

5. Who can use the Card?

The card can be used by the cardholder or the beneficiary who shall be above age of 12 years.

6. What can the Student card be used for?

Student cards can be used for payment of fees, purchase of goods and any accessories as per student's requirement at POS terminals, where Visa debit cards are accepted, for drawing cash from any Visa enabled ATMs, for filling the petrol or booking of Railway tickets with applicable surcharge, etc.

7. How to draw cash from a Visa enabled ATM?

The card kit purchased by you contains Student card, User Guide and marketing materials etc. To get the PIN for operation in an ATM, log into the "My Account" web page. Be sure to have your 16-digit card number ready to access this information. On getting the PIN, you may go to any of the Visa enabled ATMs for drawing cash.

8. Can I use a Student card at more than one merchant?

Absolutely. As long as there is balance in your Student card, your card may be used at any Visa enabled ATM for drawing cash and at any merchant that accepts Visa debit cards up to the limit available.

9. Can I use the Student card for online purchases?

Online acceptance will vary by the merchant and most of the debit cards or prepaid cards are not accepted.

10. What happens if I spend all the funds on my Student card?

Your Student card is re-loadable. A request may be made at any of the designated branch of the Bank and pay the amount and charges for re-loading of the card along with the request form duly signed by the purchaser. The card can be re-loaded up to an aggregate amount of Rs.45000/-, till the last day of the expiry month mentioned on the card. If the card has expired, then you can discard the card and purchase a new one as above.

11. What happens if I lose my Student card?

Call the Karnataka Bank branch where you purchased your Card or Customer Care centre at 1800 425 1444 or 080-22021500, 503 to 514. If a Student card is lost, Customer Service will close the account and you may visit our nearest branch for purchasing a new Student card with the remaining balance of the lost card. There is a fee of Rs.100/- for this service.

12. Who do I contact with questions about my Student card?

For prepaid card information, call Customer Service at 1800 425 1444 or visit the nearest branch or go through the Student card section of our Web site.

13. How do I use my Student card at restaurants?

We encourage you to use your Student cards at restaurants that accept Visa debit cards. However, your card cannot be used in bar and pubs. Also, you should be aware of your card balance and should understand that, for authorization purposes only, we will automatically increase the amount of your bill by 20% to cover a possible gratuity. In addition, some restaurants have pre-programmed their own card terminals to authorize a gratuity (usually 15-20% of the food bill). Both additions are for authorization purposes and you will only be charged for the gratuity you designate on the receipt. But, the result of adding additional amounts may mean that the restaurant requests an amount larger than your balance and your card may be declined.

14. What if my purchase exceeds the value on my Student card?

To make a purchase that is more than the available balance on your Student card, you may use another payment method to share the expense of your purchase. This is called a split transaction. Simply use your Student card to pay for a portion of the purchase amount and a second payment method - cheque, cash, or credit card - for the remainder. Please note that split transactions are subject to individual merchant policies. When making your purchase, remember to tell the merchant the balance on your prepaid card. (You can easily verify this via the Web site, http://karnatakabank.com ®Prepaid card ®My Account , or Customer Service at 1800 425 1444 or the Karnataka Bank branch where you purchased your Card. The merchant will not be able to provide you this information. If you attempt to make a transaction for more than the balance on your Student card, the transaction will be declined.

15. What should I do if my Student card is declined?

If you experience any problems using your Student card, please contact Customer Care Centre at 1800 425 1444 or the Karnataka Bank branch where you purchased your Card.

16. How do I activate my Student card?

You should register through internet web site http://karnatakabank.com ®Prepaid card ®My Account, after the purchase of card.

17. Can I purchase a Student card online?

No. Student cards are only available for purchase at selected Karnataka Bank branches.

18. How can I check my available balance?

Your available balance can be verified by clicking on "My Account" on http://karnatakabank.com ®Prepaid card or by calling Customer Service at 1800 425 1444 or the Karnataka Bank branch where you purchased your Card. Be sure to have your 16-digit card number and the three digits C V V number ready to access this information.

19. Can I add more money to my card?

Yes, surely. Your Student card is reloadable. Submit a request form duly signed by the purchaser to any of the designated branch to reload the amount by paying applicable DD charges that may be ascertained at the branch.

20. What happens if I have a remaining balance when my Student card expires?

Cards are valid till the last day of the month mentioned in the card. A new Student card will be issued at any of our designated branches by paying the prescribed fee of Rs.100/ or balance held in the card will be refunded to the purchaser on request.

21. How long can I use my card?

Your student card is valid till the last day of the month embossed on the card. If you don't use the full amount on the card before the card expires, you may visit any of our branches, to have a new card issued with the remaining balance after the collection of a fee of Rs.100/-

22. What happens if I / merchant cancel a transaction after approval?

Merchants will credit the value of the transaction to the card, but it may take 8-10 days for the funds to be made available in your card.
