KARNATAKA BANK OPENS FINANCIAL LITERACY & CREDIT COUNSELLING CENTRE
As part of its financial outreach/literacy programme in tune with national priority, Mangalore-based private sector Karnataka Bank Limited has joined hands with M/s. Jnana Jyothi Financial Literacy & Credit Counselling Trust, Manipal, and opened its First Financial Literacy & Credit Counselling Centre at B.C.Road, Bantwal Tq, Dakshina Kannada District today.
Shri A.K.Bhattacharyya, General Manager, Reserve Bank of India, inaugurated the Centre in the presence of Sri. P. Jayarama Bhat, Managing Director of the Bank and Shree D.T.Pai, Managing Trustee, M/s. Jnana Jyothi Financial Literacy & Credit Counselling Trust. With the opening of the centre, the Bank is providing the Financial Literacy & Credit Counselling Services to the public as a part of the Financial Inclusion initiatives of the bank.
Sri.Ashok Hegde, General Manager, Karnataka Bank Ltd,enlightened the public about the need for Financial Inclusion and Financial Literacy as well as the various initiatives of the Bank towards this end. He explained the Banks forays into Financial Literacy & Credit Counselling , Financial Inclusion and Resource building for Farmers. He said that the success of the FLCC Centre will depend on the interaction of greater number of people from the surrounding areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Sri.A.K.Bhattacharya highlighted the initiatives taken by the Reserve Bank of India and the need for Financial Literacy as well as Financial Inclusion. He reiterated that by this initiative, the level of knowledge among the general public could increase resulting in availing the Banking services and serving the greater interest of Financial Inclusion. He appreciated the keen interest shown by Karnataka Bank Ltd in this regard.
In his address the Managing Trustee of Jnana Jyothi Financial Literacy & Credit Counselling Trust, Sri. D.T.Pai, laid out the objectives of the Trust and the functions of the Centre. He appealed to the public to avail of the services of the FLCC Centre towards gaining Financial Literacy for one and all. While appreciating the fact that Karnataka Bank was the first Private Sector Bank to sponsor the opening of such a centre in Block level, he also reiterated the desire of the trust to spread the message by opening more such centres at taluk/Block level.
Sri. P.Jayarama Bhat, Managing Director, Karnataka Bank Ltd., while speaking on the occasion, highlighted the Centres functions and its use especially for the rural public. He also unveiled the banks plans for expansion into rural areas by way of opening branches in unbanked villages in the near future. He highlighted the fact that the FLCC centre was not only for Karnataka Bank Ltd but is meant to serve the interest of customers of all banks.
